One day in Melbourne I went to see an exhibition from this fashion god. Most of the dresses are to die for. Show was divided into themes which I try to remember here and get some info about some of the dresses.
Odyssey:
“As a child, my attention was always drawn by those women who didn't look like everyone else . . . ”
Classic stripes, inspired by French navy |
Mermaids, also classic sea theme |
Btw, these are not real models, but well made mannequins |
Virgins collection |
The Boudoir:
Punk Cancan
“ . . . the raw side of punk, with its Mohawk haircuts, almost tribal makeup, allusions to sex, torn fishnet stockings, black, kilts, bondage straps, mixing of genders and materials—all that spoke to me, suiting me much better than some of the ossified conventions of the couture.”
Slave to the fashion |
Skin Deep:
“Non-conformist designer seeks unusual models
—the conventionally pretty need not apply”
Urban Jungle:
“I respect individualities and I like particularities. I mix and match, collect, twist and crossbreed codes. Past, present, here, elsewhere, masculine, feminine, remarkable, humdrum—it all coexists. ”
The "skin" is handmade from tiny pearls |
I found myself a dress if I ever get married |
Metropolis:
“The costumes Jean Paul Gaultier designs are wonderfully beautiful and absolutely 'conceptual' at the same time. Almost no one else is able to combine both in the same garment. ” - Pedro Almodovar
Dresses from Pedro Almodovars "La mala educación" and "Kika" |
From Mad Max |
Perdo Almodovars "La piel que habito" |
There was also theme for Muses, but personally I didn't find it interesting. Pretty normal shit for celebrities like Kylie Minoque and Kate Blanchett so picks from there. Madonnas legendary costume from 1990 Blond Ambition Wold Tour was located in the Boudoir, but no picks of that either, everybody knows how that looks like. Or at least they should.
